4 Kinds Of Electricians
Posted on: 4 March 2022
Electricians come in different categories. All of the categories start out with the same basic training, so you don't have to worry about choosing which category you want to work with until you get further in your training. Once you have decided that you want to work as a specific kind of electrician, you need to make sure that you start getting into specialized training because the sooner you learn about the various things, the better off you are going to be when it comes time to making money. So, what are some of the different categories that an electrician might fit into?
Residential Electricians
A residential electrician specializes in all the electrical stuff that happens in residences. If you need to have a ceiling fan installed, a new circuit breaker, or are having issues with outlets in your house, you would call a residential electrician. If you live in an apartment complex, the complex may have a residential electrician that they keep on staff to take care of their facilities, depending on how big the complex is.
Construction Electrician
A construction electrician works on new construction projects or remodels. These electricians are given blueprints and wiring diagrams and follow them, installing the wiring that is called for as well as the outlets, lighting fixtures, and other electrical features. A construction electrician generally doesn't limit themselves to working on residential construction or industrial construction, although an industrial electrician may need to come in on certain parts of industrial construction.
Commercial Electrician
As with residential electricians, commercial electricians work on electrical systems in commercial properties. The word commercial can be somewhat misleading because it suggests only things like shops and businesses, but commercial electricians basically work on anything that isn't a residential setting or an industrial setting. So, if a school needs electrical work done, then it would be done by a commercial electrician. The same goes for work at a hospital or gas station.
Industrial Electricians
These electricians generally work at industrial facilities like factories. They need to know how to handle the electrical systems on heavy machinery as well as the electrical systems of the facility itself. Industrial electricians may specialize further by working on specific brands of machinery or specific types and would be hired as a specialist to come in and work on that machine.
Electricians are necessary to modern life. There are several categories of electricians, and they all work on certain kinds of things.
